Senior Code Consultant - Building and ADA/Accessibility Code Specialist

The Senior Code Consultant - Building and ADA/Accessibility Code Specialist role is primarily responsible for providing support in conducting code research, plan reviews, preparation of code opinion letters and detailed reports, along with feasibility and site inspections, with a concentration in compliance with the ADA and other accessibility laws and codes including, best practices, and relevant regulations and requirements. The position also supports the overall operation by assisting Burnham Project Managers and clients in obtaining municipal approvals economically and efficiently without compromising public health, safety, and welfare.

Salary range - Chicago-area: $75,000 - $95,000

Key Responsibilities
*
Architectural Consulting: Assists with plan reviews and code inspections for new construction and existing buildings. Performs administrative duties as assigned. Answers basic questions and inquiries in writing and over the telephone. Exercises independent judgment.
*
Research federal, state, and municipal building laws, codes, and standards and apply to plan reviews, feasibility studies, and onsite inspections.
*
Providing informed, clearly explained professional advice regarding ADA and accessibility compliance, as well as general building and life safety laws and codes as it applies to specific client and site needs.
*
Due Diligence: Assists with municipal and private industry code research and reports. Correctly understands and applies current building code regulations, policies, and procedures.
*
Industry/Profession Involvement: Maintains applicable certifications by attending training sessions as assigned. Attends trade association meetings and represents the company as assigned.
*
Represent Burnham and clients at trade association and project meetings and attend in-person municipal meetings as requested.
*
Prepare presentation packages and conduct occasional seminars and webinars hosted by Burnham, or privately for clients, for continuing education credits through AIA.
*
Managing Client Relationships through Timely, Accurate Communication: Send out weekly project status reports for all active projects. Maintain contact with the client and all necessary partners for the duration of the project.
*
Oversee multiple projects while keeping stakeholders informed, and managing customer expectations and timelines for submittals and deadlines. Interface and communicate effectively with city officials, design professionals, contractors and building owners.

Use CRM and Other Platforms: Properly manage projects, service proposals, project files, etc., using the prescribed Burnham platforms. Adhere to the required data management and security policies.
*

Education and Experience
*
Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution/equivalent experience or 5-10+ years working with construction documentation.
*
Working knowledge of construction drawings, building, life safety code regulations, and common municipal policies and procedures, as well as a strong understanding of accessibility codes (ADA, IBC, ICC A117.1 2009 & 2017, FHA).
*
Basic knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy codes
*
Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail.
*
Exercise initiative and displays independent judgment.

Position Details
Full-time, Salaried Position (FLSA exempt, ineligible for overtime)
Hybrid Work: 1-3 days in office per week, as stipulated by your office or supervisor
Limited domestic travel for occasional client meetings and work events
