This posting is open to both lateral transfers and individuals who are new to law enforcement and interested in starting a career as a police officer. If hired, the City of Dublin will sponsor non-certified new hires to attend a Basic Peace Officer Training Academy of the City's choosing. Lateral transfers will need to provide proof of OPOTA certification.

All candidates (lateral and entry level) are required to complete the written examination through NTN. Applicants are also required to submit an application for the position of police officer directly through the City of Dublin's career website. Applications and test scores must be submitted by February 12, 2025.
Recruitment Timeline and Mandatory Steps:
NTN Written examination and Dublin Career Site Application: January 6 - February 12
Panel Interviews: February 24 - March 7 (two weeks)
Physical Fitness Assessment (Mandatory for all applicants): Saturday, March 22
Background investigation: March 12 - May 9
Final Interviews: May 19-13

The Dublin Police Department subscribes to the "Community-Oriented Policing" philosophy and, therefore, the primary emphasis of the position involves community service. Officers are required to take a problem-solving approach to the situations they encounter on a day to day basis and to interact with the residents on a regular basis within their assigned districts to address relevant concerns facing the community.

The City of Dublin Police Department is comprised of full-time officer positions in the following areas, Patrol, Detective Bureau, Community Impact Unit (Traffic Enforcement, Investigators and Business District Unit team) and Community Education Unit (school resource officers). Further, the department is proud to be able to provide ancillary support to the City through the following areas, Background Investigations, Bicycle Officers, Chaplain Liaison Officer, Community Liaison Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Drone Pilot, Field Training Officer, Range Officer, Recruitment Team Member, Traffic Accident Investigators, Crisis Intervention Team and our Surveillance Team. Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate, with a strong preference for a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Criminology, Government, Political Science, Public Administration or other relevant field.

Uncertified applicants: Successful entrance into and completion of a State certified Basic Peace Officer training program. The City of Dublin will pay academy tuition fees. New hires will also receive full pay and benefits while at the academy.

Lateral transfers will need to provide proof of OPOTA certification.

Minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment (must be 21 by August 14, 2025)
Must not be older than 45 years of age at time of application if an applicant is seeking an original appointment as a police officer with the City of Dublin; exceptions to this rule apply if the applicant has received an original appointment as a sworn peace officer with any other appointing authority. Must be under the age of 45 on August 14, 2025.

Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License at time of appointment.
Must be a United States Citizen or United States Permanent Resident.
Background must be free of prior felony convictions.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically capable of successfully performing the essential job functions of the Police Officer classification and be free of medical conditions that would preclude one from successfully performing said functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others.

Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 and vision must be free of color deficiencies that would preclude one from performing the essential job functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others.

Must be able to meet physical fitness standards prescribed by the Academy of the City's choosing.
Hiring Process after Examination:
Upon completion of the testing window, the candidates finishing in at least the top thirty (30) places from a cumulative score on the written, reading, and video exam shall be notified via email to schedule a panel interview. (More than thirty (30) candidates may progress to the next phase depending upon the number of vacancies available at that time or the number of "ties" between candidates for the 30th place in the scoring.) All other candidates shall be notified of their status within thirty (30) days.

Candidate that progress after the panel interview, will be required to complete the entrance requirements for a Basic Peace Officer Training Academy in the State of Ohio.
The City of Dublin does not accept Physical Abilities Test (PAT) through NTN. PAT testing for selected candidates will be conducted by the Dublin Police Department after the completion of the structured panel interview phase. Mandatory PAT testing will be held on March 22, 2025.
