SUMMARY:
The Highway Truck Driver-Laborer is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of the Town of Shelburne's highways, sidewalks, vehicles, and equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for safely and effectively operating Town of Shelburne’s vehicles and equipment. Performs timely and effective repair of municipal roads, sidewalks, and other right-of-ways. The Truck Driver/Laborer is responsible for carrying out their duties while representing the Town professionally at all times. You must ensure that the highest quality of customer service is provided to all delivery systems within your authority as you carry out the following.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Operates light to heavy trucks.
· Uses trucks to haul maters and plow snow.
· Operate various machinery and equipment, including a front-end loader, backhoe/loader, mowers, chainsaws, and weedeaters.
· Assist with maintenance or repairs as indicated on work orders.
· Provide manual labor on various Town projects.
· Provides maintenance assistance to other departments when necessary.
· Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
· Acquires and maintains commercial driver’s license (CDL) certification.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma; Typically requires accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 to 4 years of experience. A commercial driver's license (CDL) is preferred but not required.
Experience:2-4 Years. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work Schedule: Highway personnel may be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to perform maintenance or repair work.
This position requires working “on-call” on a rotating basis, and weekly from November through March.
Environment: Highway personnel work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to various weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, rain, wind, or snow.
Physical Demands: Highway personnel are required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and lift heavy objects while performing maintenance or repair work.
Hazards: Highway personnel may be exposed to hazardous materials or chemicals and may need to wear protective gear such as gloves, masks, or goggles.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting and Carrying: Highway personnel may be required to lift heavy objects, such as equipment or building materials, up to 50 pounds.
Physical Stamina: Highway personnel need to have good physical stamina to perform their job duties, as the work can be physically demanding and require extended periods of standing or walking.
Manual Dexterity: Highway personnel need to have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform repairs.
Vision and Hearing: Highway personnel need to have good vision and hearing to operate equipment safely and to communicate with other staff members.

Hours worked in excess of 40 hrs./week are eligible for overtime pay or accrual of compensation time.
*For employees with a regular work schedule of 24 hours or more per week.
