POSITION SUMMARY

Bush Electric is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our team. This role is pivotal in preparing accurate cost estimates for residential, commercial and industrial electrical projects. The Estimator will analyze project plans, assess material and labor requirements, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure competitive and profitable bids. This position requires a blend of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and effective communication to support the company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

OBJECTIVES

  • Achieve a bid accuracy rate of 95% or higher, ensuring that estimated costs closely align with actual project expenses.
  • Complete and submit all project estimates within 48 hours of receiving project specifications or requests.
  • Maintain a bid win rate of at least 30%, contributing to the company's growth and market competitiveness.
  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs for each project, ensuring all materials and labor are accounted for accurately.
  • Update and maintain a comprehensive cost database quarterly, reflecting current market prices for materials and labor.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors weekly to refine estimating processes and incorporate field feedback.
  • Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities in at least 20% of estimates through value engineering or alternative solutions.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations, maintaining 100% compliance.
  • Develop and implement standardized estimating procedures to streamline the bidding process and reduce errors.
  • Participate in monthly review meetings to analyze estimated performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Train and mentor junior estimators or interns, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Utilize estimating software tools effectively, achieving proficiency to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the estimation process.
  • Set and regularly review short- and long-term strategic goals, adjusting plans as needed to support company vision.

  • Clearly conveys estimated details and justifications to clients, vendors, and internal teams, facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Skilled in negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable pricing and terms.
  • Identifies potential challenges in project plans and proposes viable solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Utilizes estimating software and tools efficiently to enhance accuracy and productivity.
  • Works seamlessly with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure estimates align with project goals.
  • Stays informed about industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to produce competitive and current estimates.
  • Maintains integrity and transparency in all estimating activities, fostering trust with clients and stakeholders.
  • Commits to ongoing professional development to stay abreast of new technologies, codes, and best practices in electrical estimating.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating, particularly within residential and commercial projects.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience with estimating software such as Accubid, PlanSwift, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience in the electrical field, such as a background as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Experience with project management software and tools.
  • Knowledge of cost estimation methodologies and best practices.
  • Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program is advantageous.
