Job Description

Specialty Sales Positions are responsible for promoting and selling door, window, or cabinet products. Generally, a Specialty salesperson will fall under one of these three categories, with some opportunities for cross-training. A Specialty salesperson will utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with potential customers, understand their needs, and recommend the most suitable solutions for the job or project. Ideally, a Specialty Sales candidate has a strong background in sales, a deep understanding of the door, window, or cabinet industry, and a proven track record of achieving sales targets.

  • Base Wage - The base wage for this department will match the starting wage for yard, sales, and inventory positions on the LK, GL, and BV scale ($22/hr)
    • If the starting wage for these locations is increased, all specialists will receive the same increase.
    • Base wages will be paid on normal Dunn Lumber pay period scheduling. Commissioned Product Groups
      • Cabinets: 7.50%
      • Windows: 9.25%
      • Doors: 9.50%
      • Millwork: 10%
  • Commission Payout - Specialists are eligible for commission payment on invoiced orders only and they will be paid out once a month, on the second paycheck of the month.
    • If a specialist leaves Dunn Lumber, they will be paid commissions on orders that invoice on or before their last day worked.
    • If a specialist transfers to another Dunn Lumber department, eligibility for commission payout will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Annual Sales Bonus - New in 2025, we are offering an annual sales bonus. This will be a 1% bonus based on a specialist’s annual Gross Margin on Orders Entered (GMOE). Once a specialist’s GMOE exceeds a predetermined threshold, they will receive 1% on all invoiced GMOE dollars. This payout will be part of the profit share payout timeline for all other eligible Dunn Lumber employees.
    • Example: Dunn Lumber sets an annual bonus threshold of $500,000.00 GMOE for the year. In this case, a specialist who invoices $600,000.00 in GMOE for the year will receive a $6,000.00 bonus.
    • The annual bonus threshold will be evaluated by the Executive Team and Specialty Sales Manager each year, and this number will fluctuate year to year based on business forecasts.
  • Commission Adjustments - A specialist will not be penalized with a commission adjustment when the windows, doors, cabinets, or any commissionable product is damaged, broken, or mishandled by another party.
    • Example: If a DC employee drops a window and breaks it, the reorder of that window will not result in a commission adjustment.
    • A specialist will receive a commission adjustment in a moment where their actions created the issue.
    • A specialist will not be penalized with a commission adjustment for any moment that Dunn Lumber decides to go above and beyond to resolve a customer grievance.
    • As with any policy, there will be situations that do not fit perfectly within these parameters. We are continually committed to resolving situations on a case-by-case basis to care for our employees and customers. If you find yourself questioning the details of a proposed resolution, please consult the Specialty Sales Manager.
